Lorri Pullman MacDonald has loved painting and drawing since she was a young girl. Expressing in paint how the world looks to her has been her constant joy. Art was her favorite subject in school and she continued her studies, earning a BFA from the University of Calgary. Lorri also has taken countless workshops from artists whose work she admires. For several years Lorri shared her love of art by teaching students of all ages. She has taught in the public school system as well as after school art programs and adult and senior painting classes. She has taught people from age 8 to 80.
In her own art, Lorri has recently been interested in the relationship between the elements. Light from the sky can be reflected in water, sunlight casts shadows in interesting patterns on the ground, and the wind can change water and clouds and so on. Painting “Plein Air” has helped her appreciate the dynamic quality of nature’s light.
Lorri lives in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. She loves to hike, kayak and snow shoe and she hopes her love of the outdoors comes through in her art. Mountain light changes with the seasons and as an artist Lorri finds fresh inspiration in places that she has been to countless times. Like many artists, Lorri feels that when she paints there is a connection to something bigger than one’s self.
Lorri took first place at the Western Show case at the Calgary Stampede and received the Heritage award and the People’s choice award in different years at annual Cochrane Art Club shows as well as second place and an honorable mention in two Calgary Chapter Federation of Canadian Artists Shows. She was invited to be part of a three woman show at the Leighton Centre called “The Reality Show”. She has also been invited to participate in shows at Calgary’s Midtown Gallery.
She has achieved AFCA status with the Federation of Canadian Artists.
In the past she has exhibited at the Whyte Museum in Banff, the Corner Gallery in Canmore, Rustica Gallery in Cochrane, and Artland Gallery in Calgary.
Lorri is an active member of the Leighton Center, the Calgary Artists Society, the Cochrane Art Club as well as the Federation of Canadian Artists.
Lorri’s art is in private and corporate collections in North America and Europe. She has been published in Alberta Treasury Branch Calendars and Topline Christmas cards. She has work In the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Collection.
